Over the past year I've started using the News app more often. I follow my favorite sites (e.g. MacRumors, The Verge, NYT, etc.) but I never follow any "topics", because then I get a bunch of spam/click bait/no-name sites showing up in my news feed, supposedly related to that topic.
Anyway, in iOS 11, Apple has made it impossible to avoid following topics. If you don't follow any, it will constantly "suggest" topics to follow. My news feed is now completely cluttered with stories from spam/click bait/no-name sites. All the stories from my favorite news sources are now buried in junk. It's useless to me now. I tried deactivating Siri suggestions, but that didn't stop it.
