When the iTune Store first debuted 8 years ago, I set up an Apple ID to buy music. In those days Apple IDs were alphanumeric rather than an email address. In recent years Apple have increasingly discontinued support for those of us with alphanumeric usernames - first with MobileMe, then with iOS 5. So, I finally bit the bullet and switched over to an email address. I simply did this by changing my Apple ID through the Apple website. After logging into everything again, all is working except my Game Center ID. When I log into Game Center using my credentials, I get prompted to choose a new ID. Does anyone know how to login without making a new one? This is quite irritating as I got a really good ID on day 1 and I've got lots of friends and scores saved.

Apple has stolen my Game Center name!
