Apple High Density LCD?

MacWhispers claims Apple is working on a high density LCD display, with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 3840x2400 pixel resolution. MacWhispers previously incorrectly predicted Apple's 20" LCD specs and prices.

yeah... I wouldn't hold my breath for that one.

just doesn't make sense to me.

does anyone else think the 16:10 ratio thing is a bit overrated?

But these moniters do exist...IBM and ViewSonic are the only ones that make the W-QXGA moniters. They are 22" with an aspect ratio of 3840 x 2400, and cost around $6000.

Apple making one of these moniters? Gimme a break!

Do any of the current Mac graphics cards even support that high a resolution? Seems to me that the release of that LCD would have to coincide with a new generation of high performance graphics cards.

Even at 22" diagonal that's going to be some small text, damn tiny. If you wanted to look at the whole of your 7 Megapixel digital image, that res might do the job, but as for usability? I'd say it isn't all that practical, especially with the price tag that is sure to come with it.

I don't know. . .

I have three 1600x1200 monitors hooked up to my Mac, and I almost can't live without them. They come in handy when working on enourmous 3D, NLE, and Compositing apps.

yeah. apple's been working on price-point lately, keeping everything affordable. This is something we won't see until well after the next processor comes out (when they'll have a more attractive ultra pro-line option)
