Heard rumours , Apple going to launch Home security camera? I know is " rumours " but you never know.

Wow, will be quite interested to see how Apple Home security works and the Quality but again even really has must be quite steep the price?

Seems like a misstep, and going into security doesn't seem to align, but hey Tim has never seen a subscription he didn't like
what it seem like " is for indoor home security cam " I actually curious what if Apple come out out door security cam. Wonder their video footage will be super good etc.

homekit secure video 'only' supports 1080p. i dont see apple releasing a camera, but hope they do!

I'm hoping these rumours are true. I've also heard rumours about a FaceID doorbell.

With the rumours of an imminent release of an updated HomePod Mini (HPM) and an updated Apple TV (ATV) not turning into reality week after week I'm increasingly wondering whether Apple's grand plan might be for a big smart home focussed event in maybe March next year where it announces the new improved Siri together with various hardware products definitely including the long-rumoured new HPM and new ATV (with ATV getting an increased role as an AI-capable smart home hub) plus very probably the rumoured new HomePod with a display and possibly also including an Apple security camera and maybe a FaceID-enabled doorbell as well.

Such an event could be quite an impactful statement of intent from Apple in terms of wanting to become a major player in the smart home market and including ATV as a powerful AI hub that allows an Apple-based smart home to do more sophisticated processing locally vs most of the competition plays well into Apple's privacy messaging (as does Apple secure video) and could be an important differentiator vs its competition. Also, as mentioned by another commenter (maflynn/Michael) - "Tim has never seen a subscription he didn't like" - I'm sure Apple could find a way to introduce a few more smart home related subscriptions for instance maybe Apple Secure Video getting a >1080p tier that incurs a monthly subscription to unlock.

As a smart home enthusiast currently mostly using Amazon stuff I'm really hoping that 2026 will be the year that Apple makes some bold moves into this market because if it delivers what I hope it will with Siri, ATV and new HomePod hardware I'll happily spend money on all of that stuff in 2026 to replace my Amazon and Google/Nest stuff and I would also be in the market for cameras and a doorbell if Apple does release that stuff as well.

Dynamic range (via sensor size), lens quality, image processing and compression can easily make a 1080p image objectively better than a 4k image (assuming the 4k image is cutting corners in the prior mentioned areas). Also downsampling from a higher resolution has the capability of producing a higher quality image.

Due to bandwidth limitations we haven't even see the full quality of 1080p. I typically see 200kb - 2mb bitrate 1080p24hz h264 videos from HKSV. If the hardware was powerful enough to process HEVC you could squeeze 30-50% more detail into the same bitrate which I feel is a more "Apple approach".

I gave up on HomeKit Secure Video and replaced my entire video surveillance with UniFi Protect. I feel Apple abandoned HSV. No UX or UI improvements, searching for a specific clip is impossible, detections always miss the important events.
