It has lasted 13 years so far. The lowest point in the relationship was when Apple went with Motorola G4s for the high end models, but continued to buy G3s from IBM for the mid to low range systems.
A friend of mine said he heard that Apple was gonna start searching for an alternative for processors but I'm certain that they are gonna be with IBM for some time to come. Just wanted to see what people on this forum would have to say about it.

A friend of yours may have said that he heard lots of things. Whether he heard them or not has no bearing on whether or not they are true. Apple and IBM's relationship is stronger than ever. IBM is out of the x86-based personal computer business. This means that IBM is no longer working at cross-purposes to Apple. The world's most powerful university-owned supercomputer is a cluster of Apple Mac G5 Xserves, which are based on IBM's PPC 970 processor. This is great for Apple and it's great for IBM. Why mess with a good thing?
