I have a unique problem I'm trying to help a friend out with. sorry it's a long post, but I tried to make it as short as possible.
He has his own apple id and purchased all his own apps, however he lives in a country where internet is very locked down and you have to use proxies, etc to access the app store, viber, and other apps. He wasn't able to update his apps so he went to a tech store in his country. The person helping him had proxy access and was able to access the app store to update his apps, but for some reason, he somehow transferred or re-downloaded all the apps under a different apple id.
Now my friend is in Canada and wants to update his apps but he can't because he doesn't have the other apple id password and wants to have all his apps back under his own apple id. The only way to do this that I know is to delete the app and re-download it under his apple id. first problem with this is data. for example WhatsApp history in particular. when I delete the app, the data will be deleted too. so I thought no problem, when I re-install it will ask me to restore the latest backup right? however, will there even be a backup under my friend's id, since he was using it under a different id? The second problem is my friend claims the guy at the store did this applied transfer without re-downloading everything and I can't see how that's possible. Is there some way to do this that I have not heard of (transfer purchase (mostly free apps) from one apple id to another without removing and re-downloading)?
If I must re-download that is fine, as long as there won't be data loss (eg WhatsApp history, game progress, etc)
Of course, it would be even more awesome if I could do this without having to re-download 40 apps, and according to my friend it is somehow possible.
