Let me explain:
Here's what you could and could not do prior to August 2020:
Change your Apple ID:
- from one third-party email to another third-party email: YES
- from third-party email to Apple email: YES, but irreversibly
- from Apple email to third-party email: NO
Here's what you can do after August 2020:
Change your Apple ID:
- from one third-party email to another third-party email: YES
- from third-party email to Apple email: YES
- from Apple email to third-party email: YES
As you can see, Apple has relaxed its Apple ID change rules, and now you can change your Apple ID much more freely.
My question is: if I do change my Apple ID from Apple email address to a third-party email address, what happens to my Apple email address? Is it converted to an alias? Can this be undone?
I haven't seen this update written about anywhere. Nor has Apple said anything about it. Though small, it is a significant change.
What are your thoughts? Do you think this is in preparation for Apple One launch later this year?
