Apple iMac G5 iSight

So I know these iMacs are fairly old, but here me out..

I'm a poor, poor college student who can't afford much right now. I'm soo freaking tired of my windows computers. Done with them. I have two of them now, both fairly new, and they are garbage.

Instead od buying another new POS for around 400 bucks, I was looking and refurbished iMac G5 iSights... I can get one for about 400 bucks shipped... I don't need anything fancy. I just want something that doesn't suck, crash, freeze, slow down, ect... You get the picture.

What do you guys think? Go for the iMac? Buy another new PC for 400? Once college is over (3 years) I'll have the money to buy a brand new mac, so I'm not looking for a super long term option here. Just something to hold me over for 2-3 years. ANY advice is greatly appreciated!

I dont know where you live but I would at least get an intel iMac if I were you

I lucked out and got my 2006 iMac intel Core 2 Duo for $250!

I installed 3 GB Ram and installed Lion. Runs better than any of my windows pc's!

This one is Core Duo which does not "officially" support Lion but i think there are ways around that. Otherwise it fully runs snow leopard!

Tonight i just bought a intel 17" isight 2.0,160gig hd,1 gig mem,keyboard,mouse,remote,with original tiger/ilife dvd in vnc for $200 on craigs...took me a couple weeks to find right one,and neg good price....

Installing leopard right now (doing a complete zero wipe,so taking a bit)...will upgrade ram to 4 gig's (only 3 can be used) and will install lion in future....

What exactly is the difference between the G5 isight and an intel? Sorry, when it comes to Mac computers, I'm limited in knowledge, other than the fact that every time I use one, I swear I'll never buy another PC.

Those are great prices... I'll definitely be looking out for one in my area (Spokane, Washington)

You guys talk about upgrading the OS, how much does it cost to do that? Also, how much does it cost to upgrade ram?

BTW I'm not a gamer or anything. I pretty much only use my computer for surfing the web and school related research/papers.. Very simple. My Uncle has a G5 iSight and the thing works better than any PC I've used, which is why I was interested in them, because they're also affordable.

-some ppc G5 are prone to have bad caps issues (google) and now limited to what software you can install (only ppc not intel) example: adobe flash no longer updating for ppc

-i would suggest a intel "core 2 duo" 1.8,2.0,2.16...this way you can always install lastest osx lion (2 gig min mem reg)
