They had better do so. There hasn't been a true Pentium for a long time, and the name Pentium 4 has become obsolete, as "version 4" includes not only a lot of microarch changes but some major archetecture changes

EDIT: A PowerBook Duo, eh? ;)

great, now we can't use the words "duo" or "solo" without paying a licensing fee

Learn your history. Apple alredy had the "Duo" Powerbook series ;)

Also Currently in production, but not a computer component.

And look at this, a Gateway Solo!

Proof that this isn't the first time the word "Duo" has been licensed, as well as solo. I doubt Apple would bring an old name back, and risk a lawsuit from Gateway.

This is a good thing for Intel. Pentium is too long in the tooth, and Hexium just isn't warranted. ;)

And I must agree, solo and duo do indeed sound like something that Apple would come up with. Not saying that they did of course, but it is definitely going to be a plus for Apple in the future to be able to use those names for their products, as they will "fit right in".

So what are they going to call the Celerons then? Celeron Solo? The little brother to the Solo!

Nah, that sounds stupid. Maybe they meant the Pentium Duo and Pentium Solo? Dunno...

All the more reason for a new Duo series, right? :)

I doubt they will bring back any old names, but it is entirely possible.

Apparently those ugly rounded Intel badges that made the rounds recently are genuine. Behold..

Great discovery!

I was looking on that site the other day for hints on some phone logos.

Intel will drop the Pentium name in early 2006 in favor of the new names Duo (for dual core) and Solo (for single core).

No one is saying so in this PC-centric article, but the new monikers smack of a strong Apple influence!

I'll fly Solo - thank you - except when I feel like a Duo! :D
They aren't exactly dropping the pentium name, their desktop processors will still use it and there will still be the Pentium M, (which is also within the Centrino badge). These new Core Solos and Core Duos are the new Yonahs we have heard so much about, whereas other architectures will be named differently.
