I have been buying iPhones outright for couple years now since AT&T stopped their subsidized contract pricing. This time, I was thinking of going with Apple upgrade program. How does it work exactly? As we all know, when you are trying to preorder and want to have iPhone on day one :) , you can't waste valuable seconds.
1. How much time do they take do credit check?
2. Can we get pre-approved beforehand?
3. How much time it adds on during placing your order? (redundant question but checking to see if there are some additional steps)

Exciting time!!!

You can preorder on line and have it delivered to your house / office.

I have been very curious about this as well. As best as I can tell there is no way to do any of the processes prior to actually ordering a device but I'm not sure how much time is added by signing up. Hopefully someone who has signed up previously will be able to chime in.

I've now done the program for two years. I signed up originally with the 6s and ipgrsded last year.

Year one, reserved phone online for in-store pickup. Got there at my 8am appointment time and did the credit check right then and there.

Year two, preordered again online for in-store pickup. Again did all the paperwork and loan application in store.

Last year my GF and sister joined the program for the first time. They preordered for in-store pickup. Upon reserving the phone I believe it took them to an application page for the credit check. But nothing was finalized until in-store.

The credit check is based solely on having a credit card. It's extremely fast. Not even 10 seconds for a decision.

You got all your phones on launch day?

Credit check takes no time at all. I would say about 1 hr to buy, set up the payments and have you iphone ready to go home and transfer all your date. That is what takes the longest. Outside of that it is a piece of cake.

Both years, I was in and out in less than 15 minutes.

Didn't take very long for me last year in the UK, but I couldn't do anything on preorder day, I had to wait until release and reserve one from store stock. You can see how that makes things more complicated, especially with supplies so constrained. I can't imagine they'll have any Edition stock in store come launch day.

Has anybody tried to perform the entire enrollment process online? It seems that for the US atleast you can do it all without actually visiting the store. I am wondering if that will still be an option come pre-order night

I am curious about this too. Interested in the iUP but will resort to buying out-right if it means a faster check-out when preorders open.

My brother-in-law did it last year (signing up for the first time). It was no faster or slower than signing up for an in-store pickup or checking out. If I recall correctly, it locks in the phone at the date you see in your cart until you finish the checkout process. As mentioned above. The credit check is instant because all it uses is your social security number and credit card. Not a traditional credit check application.
