Apple appears to have implemented a server-side fix for an issue that prevented a limited number of iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max users from downloading on-device Apple Intelligence models.

MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris and others who are impacted by this issue are now able to download the models and use Apple Intelligence features.

The server-side fix applies automatically. On the iPhone 15 Pro and newer, you can check if Apple Intelligence is enabled in Settings → Apple Intelligence.

Apple never publicly commented on the issue, so the underlying cause is unknown.

It’s a sad state of affairs (for Apple), but I imagine that millions of ChatGPT and Gemini users on iOS would hardly notice or care.

I have AI disabled on my phone and laptop.

Is there a list anywhere of what features/functions AI brings to these devices? I'll enable it once I discover something useful (to me!) it can do.

I'm sure Apple is noticing just fine with healthy hardware sales to ChatGPT and Gemini users.

Poor Apple is getting a bad rap for this AI support... they literally enable AI access globally for millions through hardware sales that performs exceptionally well.

When Siri is finally context aware, then maybe people will realize just how integrated (and invisible) Apple's AI features have been all along.

Anyone turning off this capability is castrating their devices at the present moment.

Glad to see that it is fixed. Should be getting my new Orange 17 Pro Max soon. Expecting no problems to be present while setting up my new iPhone.
