While the more personalized version of Siri is infamously delayed, Apple Intelligence will continue to evolve in other ways in the meantime.

Apple-Intelligence-General-Feature-2.jpg

In a later-than-usual Monday edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman outlined two additional Apple Intelligence enhancements that are likely planned for the upcoming iOS 18.6 and iOS 19 software updates.

First, he expects iOS 18.6 to enable Apple Intelligence in China, with Alibaba and Baidu set to power some of the features in that country.

Second, he said that iOS 19 will include new Apple Intelligence capabilities, although he did not provide any specific details. In court, Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently suggested that iOS 19 may include Google Gemini integration.

iPhone models with Apple Intelligence have already offered ChatGPT integration since iOS 18.2. With user permission, Siri can show ChatGPT answers directly in response to questions and other prompts. ChatGPT is also an option for Apple's system-wide Writing Tools feature, allowing users to generate text and images. Google Gemini would likely have similar integration across Siri and Writing Tools, becoming a second option alongside ChatGPT.

Google Gemini is already available as an iPhone app.

Apple Intelligence is available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models, plus select iPads and Macs.

iOS 18.6 beta testing should begin later this month. After that, Apple is expected to announce iOS 19 during its annual developers conference WWDC, which kicks off Monday, June 9. The first iOS 19 beta should be seeded to developers shortly after the keynote, and the software update should be released to the general public in September.

I hope this includes improving existing features which aren't the greatest, as opposed to adding something you'll mess with one time just to have something new.

Hopefully integration with iOS/iPadOS means Google will release an iPadOS version of Gemini.

Cool. Will iOS 19 finally let you turn Apple Intelligence off and not reenable it when you install every update?

Haven't updated since 18.3.2, since I got tired of having to go into Setting every update to deal with yet more nonsense I don't need.

The other nonsense being "Hey, Siri" setup, which I will never activate. Yet, I have to go through the dance of "finishing my iPhone setup" every software update just to confirm that I actually do not want to enable the feature. Not to mention, Messages is still broken since the iOS 18 update and crashes every few days, breaking forwarding.

So, I guess I just won't install updates until there's something I really care about. Regardless of how many unblockable lock screen notifications Apple cares to throw up.

Of course Google would like to have their spy technology integrated in with iOS 19. Going to submit a feature request to block Google completely!

To be honest, don't really care that much. I'm still trying it out and hope maybe they can bring something new to the table but for right now little way behind everything else. I wish I could switch assistance directly into the iPhone.

literally the only apple intelligence feature i use is the ability to double-tap at the bottom of the screen to open a prompt, which i then use to ask siri to make a reminder for myself. it's like the over-expensive version of asking homepod to set a timer or check the weather.

More languages please. I switched Siri from Dutch to English to play with AI. But it’s a pain because she doesn’t understand contacts, location names, Siri Shortcuts, … And she can only send English messages. Not so intelligent.

I’m not in China so 18.6 is meaningless.
19 will include some unspecified improvements and maybe integration with Google Gemini, so it won’t change anything for me.

So no new features in 18.6 other than region specific improvements. As for iOS 19, waiting to see what Apple will announce. Gemini integration should be happening but other than that wonder what Apple will announce.

Psssh, iOS 18.6 and iOS 19 are OLD NEWS! Everybody is getting stoked for iOS 19.4. For the first time ever, iOS 19.4 features Siri FULLY INTEGRATED with Apple Intelligence, including personal details and awareness. This changes everything, all over again, and is the BEST, MOST POWERFUL iOS that Apple has ever released!

I've had Apple Intelligence turned off since it was first introduced and I've installed every update to the various OSes since. And the first thing I do after installing an update is go to the settings to turn AI off. But the funny thing is that AI's never been turned back on.

Wondering if this is because I'm in Canada. If so, yet another reason not to become the 51st state.

So he predicted that a software update will contain software updates 🤯. Also Macrumors wrote an article stating that a software update in the future will contain news😱
