Apple today announced new training courses and certifications to help IT professionals learn how to support and manage Apple devices in the workplace.

From today, updated professional training and certifications for IT support and management are available from Apple in a redesigned, online, and self-paced format. Users are now able to demonstrate their abilities with two new courses and exams to earn certification from Apple in Apple Device Support, and Apple Deployment and Management.

The Apple Device Support course teaches the tools, services, and best practices used by help desk professionals, technical coordinators, or service providers for an organization's Apple devices using around 14 hours worth of articles and guided exercises. The Apple Deployment and Management course takes these skills further, covering how to configure, manage, and secure Apple devices using mobile device management (MDM), teaching users how to develop a deployment strategy and use Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager.

The new courses are sequential and build on a user's skills as they progress, with new certification exams available to demonstrate competence at each level with corresponding digital badges. Each exam costs $149, with vouchers available from the Mac Admins Foundation for applicants in financial need. The Apple Professional Training courses are now available at training.apple.com.

Looking at the training for the certifications, the depth of knowledge isn't very deep. I'm noticing the same thing in the app development area.

A few years ago I took the app development training that was led by an Apple certified trainer and it wasn't very good. After the training completed participates could create a hello world and a flashlight app. The training was a real let down. Hopefully it's gotten better.

So, is the test $149, or is it $149 per course? I'd love to learn more, but I also want to make sure I have my facts correct in this case.

If you ever talked with an Apple "Genius" before, you will know that these certifications probably are not going to help much.

Are Genius’s trained on things like MDM management? They’re mostly break/fix.

This seems to be aimed at Administration.

I saw it has stuff about MDM, Apple School/Business Manager, etc. I hope the training doesn't require you to have a full-admin account with these, as not all Apple IT professionals will have that. I'm one such person. I'm a low level support professional, but would like to up my skills so I could get a job with full access to these things.

After being on this forum for years, I can assure you that you are wrong. I would say 90% of the posters here can’t spell MDM, must less understand how it works.
From the years and years of people insisting on force closing every app for “better battery life” or “smooth operation” on an iPhone I’d have to agree with you.

There's a lot to know about under the macOS hood beside how to use Finder. I would definitely sign up for this.

So does this replace the desktop OS cert path? Can't seem to find much on that one anymore....ACSP... The one that had you only having to pass one test on MacOS... the one that used to be Mac OS and Mac Server OS (two tests) to get certified. Sure do get tired of the way online documentation for these programs has a habit of disappearing from Apple or their partner's training website.

Unless they’re teaching you how to use MDM software from other vendors, these certs are likely pretty worthless.

Those got dropped a few years ago when the enterprise group started handling the apple consultant network.
They’re really trying to prime people to learn and use MDMs. I’m curious how involved or difficult the basic troubleshooting training is. The old certs could be intense but also a bit esoteric on what you had to memorize.

OK. Here's the thing that makes me angry:

Peachpit JUST published the following "book" in March....

macOS Support Essentials 12 - Apple Pro Training Series: Supporting and Troubleshooting macOS Monterey

YET, I can't seem to find a mention of the related Certification on the Apple website....

This sort of a mixed message, whether intentional or unintended, makes me hesitate to commit to a study path...
