On craigslist and eBay, the iPhone 4s 16gb version goes between $280-$350.

The iPhone 5 goes for over $650.

Should one pay almost double for a phone that is the same other than the design and speed?

E-bay & CL? Oh really, they have the same speed and design?

Wow, lol, fail!

Where are these experts and e-whiners coming from? Samsung commercials?

So to correct your title, it's a better value on eBay or Craigslist...

Yes. Of course of eBay and craigslist. Who wants to buy a phone on contract that cost over $2000 for 2 years...

Wow, just wow. Get and use iP5 and 4s, you will not be saying that. If $$$ difference is bothering you too much, the expensive or fast pace to getting the greatest & must-have smartphone business is not for you!

Night and day difference, it's all worth it getting the iP5 ... priceless! You get what you pay for ...

You'll pay up now for iP5 but rates are the same month to month - in 2 years or so, the resale value in the future and experience you will receive / gain everyday with iP5 for the next 2+ years is unmeasurable blah blah blah.

Is it worth it would depend on an individuals financial situation.
One reason they are so much right now is the demand. Once apple has the stock caught up, no one will pay $650 and up from an individual, when they can buy directly from apple at same price or a little more.
If it were me, I would wait and get it cheaper in a few months.

---------so you don't plan on paying for service, using it as an iPod Touch?

It cost you money over the course of its usage with your service provider whether you have a contract or not.

You obviously do not know how to get a cheap plan.

The plan I am on cost me $2-$3 a month. And it includes data.

Is the $2-$3 a month to cover string replacement costs and maybe food for the courier pigeon?

You are correct, I obviously don't know of a plan that costs $2-$3 month, and it includes data. I doubt it would compare in terms of service to mine if it is real.

OP should start a NEW thread about it since dollar for dollar (err byte per byte; minute per minute of BS) his future or current or whatever secret service is SO MUCH cheaper!!!

forgot LTE buddy? improved noise reduction? improved low light camera? man people these days speaking out their asses

I think the 4S is quite expensive in comparison to the 5, when a rational, level playing field comparison is made.

Direct from the Apple Store here, an iPhone 4S is £449 (including VAT). The iPhone 5 is £529 (including VAT).

A difference of £80 for the newer, faster, lighter, improved model is a bargain.
