Looks like Apple is finally doing some mainstream advertising. They have an ad up on Yahoo! mail.

It speaks volumes about Apple's promotion of non-iPod products when we get excited about an ad on Yahoo! :p

Yeah the newest comercial ive seen on tv that wasnt a iPod was the first Powermac G5s how long ago was that, 4 years?

I suspect when they have a new iMac or iBook they'll advertise it on TV, but focus primarily on Tiger and iLife. They're not going to do a mainstream ad for an OS that doesn't work on 97 percent of computers.

I didn't see them advertise the last iMac when it came out. I don't think they advertised the one before that either, did they?

I don't think so. The last non-iPod ad I saw, as mentioned above, was the PM G5 ad in the summer of 2003. Nothing since, AFAIK.

Of course they advertised the iMac G4. Remember... the commercial with the people standing on a sidewalk looking at the iMac through the window. The ejecting CD tray was a big deal. ;) :)

I never saw an iMac G5 commercial though.

Yes this is correct. There was an ad for the G4 iMac, but none for the G5 iMac.

The last Power Mac ad I know of is the Summer 2003 "most powerful computer" ad with the guy being blown out of the house.

The last PowerBook ad is the Less is more/More is More Yao Ming and Mini-me airplane in Jan 2003.

As far as the iBook goes, I can't remember the last time I saw an ad for it; definitely years ago.

I'm not even sure the eMac has ever gotten and ad. And the Mac mini has not be advertised on television to date.

I think that is fairly accurate. :)

What about...

What about "From the creators of the iPod..." "The iMac G5."

I think that I remember seeing this ad.

Just a QT movie

I don't think that ever aired on TV. It was just a QT movie on apple.com

apple definitely needs to step up with their adds. it would be awesome to see some tv adds for Tiger and for some hardware, it would really help them grow as well, dispelling some of the misconceptions about macs as well in the process

I was throwing out some old New Yorkers this winter and one from 2001 had a nice print ad for the ibook-- the first (dual USB/G3) "icebook." Today you can't pick up any magazine these days without an ipod ad. Other than the "blown away" G5 powermac ad, the last non-ipod TV ad I recall was for the flavored imacs.
