Apple IUP- Buy Different Carrier Model?

Question for anyone that might actually know- can you buy a different carrier model than the carrier you actually have? I have AT&T and there was no AT&T models available at pre-order so I selected a Verizon model, which according to reports, will work on AT&T's network. Will Apple let me buy a Verizon model even though I have AT&T using the upgrade program?

No, you have to have an active account with the selected carrier to buy that version of the phone on the IUP.
