I just realized, that apple shanked me for an extra $100. Apple has consistenly charged $200 for the bigger screen on all their computers. When looking at old models, the 13" top of the line went for $1499. Entry level 15" went for $1699. $200 price difference and only difference was screen size. Then, top of the line 15" was $2299. The 17" was $2499. Again, $200 difference. Even the iMac line which is $1499 for top of the line 21.5", then $1699 for entry 27". Now, take a look at the top of line 15". It's $2199 with an i7. The 17" is $2299 with an i5. If you upgrade the 17" to a i7 it becomes $2499. Which makes it now a $300 upgrade, for the "exact" same hardware as a top of line 15", and the same screen size that apple was charging $200 for a mere week ago. I personally find this ridiculous. Again, don't get me wrong, I still ordered it and am excited as hell to have it, but I find this total ********. Pardon my French. Lemme know your guys thoughts.

Isn't it still 200 over the top of line 15" with the high res option?

take a peak at the descriptions. There is more then screen size between the two.

research, not assume.

I see no difference. Other then screen size. If I'm missing something, please go right ahead but I see nothing.
And ya it is, but Apple has always had the 15" at the 1440 resolution. So u can't consider the upgrade on the 15" ehh comparing to the 17".

Supply and Demand! Now both i7 antiglare MBPs are 5-7 days shipping. The 17" went to that time frame first.

you get express card slot + 1 usb.. both nice but not worth 2-300 more.. for what it costs apple, these should come standard on all

Doesn't the 17" have at least a card slot that the 15" doesn't?

To be honest I have not been interested in the MBP range, and have not looked for a bit, but at last look the 17" came with features not available on the other models. This is why I did not purchase a new one. I only need a 13" screen, and was not about to pay all that extra cash, just so I could get a PCM slot.

I dunno, maybe you just save more on the 15". The 17 used to be 2499 as a base + extra for the better processor. Now it's 2499 with the best processor.

Differences in 17'

The 17' has three USB ports instead of two, a express card 34 slot instead of an SD slot, and a higher resolution screen

OP...you're right...it is frustrating...but the 17inch has bigger battery(though it doesn't matter now as the whole MBP line has the same battery life) and also an express card slot...

personally i think the MBPs are slightly overpriced...the latest ones have a 3 year old graphic card...although the ipods are fantastic...
apple isn't the same anymore... :(

I don't know why the jumped the price, all of the explanations listed above (USB, ExpressCard, battery life) are all things that existed prior to this last update.

The logical explanation is: because Apple can.

Really? Come on man. These forums are occupied by people from all over the world, and English is not everyones first language. Grammar correction posts should be deleted.
