Granted, multibillion dollar, global company Apple — maybe I shouldn’t expect it to “know” if a single white 38mm ceramic watch in box purchased thru Apple brick&mortar staff via Apple online store was actually made available for pickup by FedEx from the Mt. Joliet, TN facility 8/21 for overnight delivery to my zip code?

And yet, I do.

Apple CSR can’t confirm what I think I know: No such watch was actually available. Online store had shown availability fluctuating over the last two weeks.

Status: No delivery as of 8/24, FedEx tracking shows label created 8/21, but shipment “pending”, no pickup and no travel history.

Apple CSR says hold on til Monday, 8/27, then Apple will cancel the order and truly refund $$ to credit card within five days from then. Apple will then assume responsibility for finding the item.

CSR apparently has only FedEx tracking to check with, no realtime Apple inventory control.

History: Watch showed available online store Tuesday, 8/21. Ordered at Apple Store, which uses same Apple online store we all do. Paid $8 for overnight delivery, $105 for AppleCare; refunds acknowleged for both of those from Apple emails.

At least funds should be back in time for Series 4 order. ;)

UPDATE 8/25: Apple instituted refunds & already showing on credit card.

UPDATE 2, 8/28: Darn thing arrived out of the blue.

First few hours indicates the S3 ceramic connects faster to cellular outdoors than the aluminum S3. Tomorrow will be a better test.

Update 3 9/1: appears Watch OS likely reason new ceramic S3 switched to cellular more quickly outdoors, closer to house.

watch came with 4.3.1.
now updated to 4.3.2 and again takes walking a block to automatically switch to cellular with that darn red X lagging and annoyingly prominent.
