I know there are several Apple new-leather-case threads ("I'm so excited!", and "Show me a red case with a black phone!", and "does it protect when you drop it?", etc...)

But specifically, how are you getting around the "danged case's Lightning hole is too small for the apple charger/cable!" problem?

Did you enlarge the hole with a dremel?

Did you locate a certified Lightning cable that fits?

Pics/links if you got 'em.

thx

My official and un-official lightning cables (that works) both fit with no problems.

Wut.

You really think Apple would make a case that doesn't fit the cable meant for the phone?

OK, so is it just the "30-pin adapter cable" that's not fitting? or some extension cable? I don't have the case yet, but I'm just doing some research (with your help!) before I get one!

Not tried my 30 pin adapter yet but if i go out in the car later i'll give it a go but i think the case would have to come off.

Don't always believe everything you read.

The cable that shipped with my 5s fits the case just fine with plenty of space around it.

The Apple microUSB to Lightning adapter I bought in an Apple store yesterday fits the case just fine, though with less extra space around it.

The Apple Lightning to 30-pin Adaptor dongle I wouldn't expect to fit with most cases, not just Apple's. Haven't tried the cable version of the adapter though.

Third party plugs, YMMV of course, since Apple isn't going to be designing for them.

I have the apple 30pin to lighting adaptor and it doesn't fit in with this case. Kinda disappointing. Would love to see any mods people come up with.

this was the thread I was thinking about...

Now, I figure the 30-pin-to-lightning adapter that doesn't have a cable (but is just the single plastic block) probably wouldn't fit... it DOES seem smart for Apple to make these with an extra collar around the lightning plug to make sure the lightning plug is long enough to extend into the jack if the phone is wearing a case. This seems like a no-brainer to me.

But I thought I also read that one of the Apple cables had a lightning plug sleeve that was too thick, too.

I picture something like this (forgive my feeble PS skills):

I have been recommending RND cables over the Apple cables for durability. I am happy to report it works, though it is a snug fit. You have to push it in just a bit, but it does seat fully. And now you can swing your iPhone around because it's plugged in so securely! ;)

RND Lightning on Amazon

I have the top 2; 2M white and black cables. Looks like the 1M cables are similar construction to the Apple cables. The 2M cables are heavier and thicker and JUST fit into the leather case.

What is this used for?
it's the 30-pin-to-lightning adapter. So you could use your iphone 5/5S or other lightning-equipped device with a dock or existing cable that has a 30-pin connector.

And again, that's just my mockup of one with a longer collar around the lightning part, so it would accommodate an iphone with a case.

Amazon Basics lightning cable is too big to fit in the official Apple Iphone 5s Leather case hole. Tried it last night.
I dremeled the cable connector. Fits perfect now. 5 minutes with a dremel sanding wheel is all it took.
I put a slight bevel on the end of the plastic connector housing on the cable. Basically, I sanded a 30 degree-ish bevel and took the 'A' off of Amazon. My cable now says 'mazon' instead of 'Amazon' like on this picture:

Weird. I did see your post with the picture in the other thread:

Are you sure you're connector is actually seated all the way into the port? The easiest way to tell if the connector is really pushing in all the way, is to take the case off the phone and then try to put the connector through just the case (no Iphone in the case).

When I tried to do the above action - my Amazon basics cable wouldn't fit through the hole in the case.
Maybe Amazon changed the cable housing end size. My cable is from last year...so maybe?

Yes it does, just make sure you dont have the early model of the charger. The ones that have been out for about 6-8 months have a tapered end and fit fine

Damn i have the old version and won't fit. Will put this one in my wife's car, do you know which model or no i need to find?

Cheers

edit. got a usb will just use a lightening cable. all good.

I have two Amazon cables, long and short. Long one fits the Apple leather case, short one doesn't. Must be some production variance or change in design between the two.

Both my Monoprice cables fit, just barely.

The 4" Monoprice Cable I have for my Anker Astro2 works in my Apple Leather Case with a little bit to spare.

I know the 4", and have read the 3' Monoprice have no problems. The 6ft is very tight but still fits.
