Is there any opinions or evidence that Apple is using lower quality leather for their leather cases? I’ve had several friends and read posters where they say the new iPhone X leather cases are slightly lower in quality than before. Thinner leather that gets scratched more?

I’ve become addicted to cases and at some point I want to try a Saddle Brown Apple leather case so maybe I should just buy it now and keep it until I use it?

I don’t think their leather is low end but the outer wax type layer they put on it to preserve the new look actually takes away from the true character of the finer grade leather that it truly is. Here is an example of mine right when I bought it out of the box then the next day after I removed that wax top layer and then applied a coat of mink leather conditioner. It immediately absorbed into the leather as before I removed it the mink would not even absorb and it was repelled by that outer layer. Here’s a before and after picture. I think it’s a fine enough leather but apples protection they put on it actually prevents the leather from showing it’s true leather character.

Great thanks for that info and pic. I have the Pad and Quill wood case right now but wanted to try the Saddle Brown case after a while. Products these days change so much due to more “cost-effective” building techniques, locations, etc that I thought about just buying a Saddle Brown case now and keeping it. Some friends have noticed leather quality differences within a year from Apple.
