Hi folks,

I was looking at a suitable monitor for my sons Mac Mini (currently using an ancient 17" Studio Display) and would prefer to stay with Apple, and wondered if this Apple Cinema Display LED (24-Inch) would be compatible? If so, which adapter would I need?

Also, what about the earlier 30" Cinema Display, would they work?

Or would we be better off going with the 27" Thunderbolt Display?

As ever, any help gratefully received.

Re: 27-inch (non Apple) monitor...

I’ve been researching a little and If I wanted to utilise the the Mac mini's full 2560x1600 resolution for a 27-inch display, which port would I use on the Mac and which adapters would I need etc? Any recommended models available in the UK?

Apologies for the basic questions, but I've never bought a non Apple display before.

I'm using a 27" Thunderbolt display with my Mac Mini before the mini it was attached to my 2011 13" MacBook Pro which is basically what you have and the HD3000 combined with 1440p wasn't a great experience. If I were in your shoes I'd pick up a largish 1080p screen and call it a day.

@lowendlinux - many thanks, appreciated! So, would most of the contemporary IPS monitors improve on the Apple Studio & Cinema Displays?

Any recommendations for makes and models that have Apple like build quality?

Honestly I'm with the post above just get a Dell preferably an ultra sharp, they really are just good displays

I use an Apple LED Display with my mini - the 24" version, and it works just fine. The 27" works just fine too, though I wouldn't expect to game as that resolution. For general web stuff its just fine however.
