I have a Macbook Pro. I've noticed strange behavior after I close the lid. As soon as I close the lid, the apple logo turns off. However, after a few seconds have passed, the apple logo lights up. It stays lit for 20 seconds or so, and then turns off again, and remains off. If I open the lid while the light is on, the computer appears functional, however, it won't connect to the internet. After those 20 seconds have passed, the computer screen turns black for a few seconds, and comes back on, connected to the internet. This happens every time I close my laptop.

When you close the lid, it can take 15-30 seconds to write the contents of RAM to the hard drive and enter sleep mode. You'll know it's done when the sleep light begins pulsing.

But it does goes into sleep mode, comes out, then goes back into it

My Macbook Pro 5,5 (Late 2009) is doing the same thing. I don't know whats up with it. I don't think it ever used to do it. I've just recently started noticing it.

It shouldn't have anything to do with the computer going to sleep. The Apple on the lid lights up when the computer is open, and stays on until closed. The sensor switches the light on and off upon opening and closing.

Can anyone shed light on this? Thanks much.

how do you sleep your computer? simply close it? or otherwise? if you do it by menu (or clicking button, or terminal) then close the comp, i would guess as you said the switch turns off the screen, but then it turns on again because the comp is actively doing things (as when you wake a sleeping comp the screen comes on) then finishes its work and shuts off the screen. just a guess

my comp does it when its closed (clamshell mode) and i unplug external monitors, it flashes and then sleeps.

I've done two things to alleviate the issue
1) enabled normal sleep mode (IN_TERMINAL$ sudo pmset hibernatemode 0)
2) disabled lid wake, or the computer waking up simply by opening the top, instead you click a key or the mouse or power button (IN_TERMINAL$ sudo pmset lidwake 0)

As I stated earlier in the thread, if your sleep light is not pulsing, your Mac is not yet in sleep mode, so the screen backlight that illuminates the logo on the lid can go on or off. Once it's in sleep mode, it will not come on again until it wakes.
