iPod Apple Lossless and AIFF problems

Each time i try to import a CD to iTunes using either Apple Lossless or AIFF half way through the import, iTunes will crash. I have tried multiple CD's and it is the same every time. I thought the latest iTunes update might sort it, but no suck luck.

Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

I am running a MBP CD 2Ghz 1Gb RAM.

Odd, I've never heard of such a problem and I have ripped a lot of CDs into ALAC without any problems. Does this happen with AAC or MP3? I wonder if your optical drive is faulty in some way.
