Is the Apple headphone port spec different than other computers - I always have problems with them playing through my HiFi - on all sorts of Apple devices?

Apple Mac Headphone Port Spec v Other

The problem seems to be with the cable that connects the headphone port on Macs to Amplifier cables Aux In. Often the sound will come out of a one speaker only unless you wiggle it around in the headphone port. I get this with either Mac laptops, iPhones or iPods and have had it with several cables.
