Hey!

I just ordered the LG 40WP95C-W

And my question is: does the touch ID, sound volume, and screen brightness keys work/interact with the extended monitor?
I'm planning on keeping my MacBook closed while connected to the monitor...

Not likely, as a point of reference, I currently run an LG 34WK95U-W and the settings have to be modified using the display's overlay.

I am planning on purchasing an LG 24MD4KL-B that I know integrates control for those settings in the OS, this one the original 21.5'' 4k and the 27'' 5K ultrafine are the only models that have been tailored specifically to work with Apple devices (to my knowledge).

LG's menuing is far from the worst you can experience. And I do believe that higher end models come with a luminosity sensor, and as far as sound goes, don't get your hopes up ;).

Happy computing !

Touch ID should work to unlock the computer. Everything else - not so sure. It's one of the reasons that I ponied up the Apple tax for the studio display.

With respect to the screen brightness, you might want to try MonitorControl Lite https://apps.apple.com/us/app/monitorcontrol-lite/id1595464182. I use that to control my external Dell from the OS and it works well enough.
Seems like there’s an updated full version for free that control BOTH volume and brightness
