I just bought a Apple Magic Mouse and after setting it up correctly, the left mouse button doesn't work - doesn't register a click.

I rebooted the computer and it started working.

But now, whenever the computer goes to sleep for a while, the left click stops working again upon awaking.

Then I need to reboot again to make it work again.

Apparently, this is a common problem.

Any ideas as to what I can check and fix to make it work again?

PS: I have OSX Lion on an iMac

Go into your system preferences and mouse settings and make sure that "secondary click" is selected. And you can choose the option of whether you want your secondary click to be on the right or the left.

Anyways, just a suggestion. RETURN that mouse. Trust me it sucks and will likely break in 3-6 months, definitely not worth the $69. Apple gives you 14 days to return, no questions asked.

Buy a Logitech mouse instead. Sorry to say this, but Apple surpassed the design aspect on this mouse, but as far as reliability, it sucks.

I already have the secondary click set to right hand side but I cant make the left one work.

I have a Logitech MX Revolution but its packed up which is why I bought the Magic Mouse.

I would try to exchange it for a new one. I'm relatively new to these forums and I've noticed quite a bit of magic mouse bashing. I've had mine well over a year and love it. The best mouse I've ever had - and I've had many. Give it another shot - it's awesome with lion.

I don't care for any type of mouse, but my brother has been a big advocate for Apples Magic Mouse. He puts a load of time on the one he has at work and the one at home. He's never had one single problem. That's impressive.

Considering you have a 1 year warranty from date of purchase, i would suggest taking it back to the Apple store and having them test it and if it still doesnt work then they will probably just swap it out for a new one.

Sadly, I didn't buy it from Apple so they wont swap it. I bought it from a private seller at Amazon.

I already tried taking it to the Apple store.
