Apple's unreleased MagSafe Duo Charger has passed Korea's National Radio Research Agency (NRRA) compliance test, a possible indication that the wireless charging pad is almost ready for shipment.

Apple announced the MagSafe Duo during its ‌iPhone 12‌ launch event in October. The charging accessory is vaguely reminiscent of Apple's canceled AirPower charging mat, featuring space to charge both an ‌‌iPhone 12‌‌ and Apple Watch (but not ‌AirPods‌) at the same time.

Apple hasn't provided specific availability or price details for the charging pad, and it's not yet listed on Apple's online store. Apple's iPhone 12 press release simply says that it will be arriving at a "later date."

However, we still have pre-orders to come for the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max starting on Friday, November 6, and there is one more Apple event this year on November 10, when Apple is expected to announce its first Apple Silicon powered Macs, so it's not unreasonable to suppose we could see the MagSafe Duo launch around one of these dates, too.

(Thanks, Joohyeong Jake Lee!)

It can charge AirPods, right? Just not at the same time as charging the other devices. Or am I mistaken?
No, you're not mistaken. It can charge AirPods (MagSafe is backwards compatible with Qi charging), but not at the same time as an iPhone 12 and Apple Watch.

Of all Magsafe accessories, I am genuinely interested with this one.. Surprisingly useful with Watch/iPhone charging at the same time, then being foldable I can bring it anywhere I go to charge 2 of my most useful Apple devices.

I just hope it doesn't cost $299 to begin with.

Whatever prices users here guess, Apple usually charges higher than that 🤷🏻‍♂️
Depends who’s guessing 🙂

If you would have described the $39 MagSafe charger and asked for price estimates before its release, I think you would have seen a lot of guesses in the $59-79 range, and more than a few at $99 or higher. I’m not sure how many would have guessed $39.

Apple could have easily priced the thing at $49 or $59. Pricing it at $39 shows Apple wants to sell a ton of these.

Before the 16” MBP was released, there were estimates from (iirc) about $2,699 to $3,999. No one could believe it was priced at $2,399—the same as the 15”. Effectively it was actually a price cut, because they increased the base SSD (again, iirc).

I'm curious how this will work. I have the old Apple Watch disk charger like this, and it is quite hefty. But I feel for magsafe to work it would need to be heavier, otherwise everytime you grab your iphone you are going to pick up the magsafe side of the charger and smack it back down. I presume Apple will weaken the magnetic force a bit from the standard magsafe setup to give it just enough to "click in" but not drag the whole setup when you want your phone.

Hoping Apple thought this one through. If removing the iPhone from the dual charger lifts up the Apple Watch charger and Apple Watch due to the magnet then fail.

I hope the charging pad is weighed down.
I just hope it's made of a resilient material, unlike the iPad keyboard cases.

We won't include a charger for the environment. Instead we want you to buy a 20W charger, a Mag safe charger for your phone, another different charger for your watch that is not interchangeable with your phone's charger and a Mag safe iPhone/Watch duo charger travel kit.

The $39 Magsafe Charger doesn't come with a charging brick though. You need to buy the 20W charging brick separately for another $20 if you want to benefit from 15W fast charge from the Magsafe charger. No other charging brick provides 15W of fast charging, not even 96W MacBook Pro charging brick.

im gonna need to glue this mother to my bedside table or it will put everything on the floor when pick up my iPhone!

I’m hopeful Apple though this through.

I got this for $20 and it does a great job at charging all 3. MagSafe is just a gimmick.

I really dislike the sonically or heat welded edges of pieces like this or the iPad covers, as it just has a cheap vibe to it. It reminds me of a few sun visors in cheaper cars I’ve owned. Why couldn’t they just have the TPU or whatever the polymer is they use for flexible products, be the hinge area only, with the MagSafe charger and Watch charging pucks being made out of metal / plastic? Hopefully a number of third party producers will come out with better options.
