I have a friend with an iMac G3 running at 500MHz. He's currently running 10.1.2 but we're going to upgrade it to 10.4.11 soon and have already ordered some RAM.

We're currently trying to set up Gmail IMAP access through the Mail.app in OS X. It's version is 1.1. IMAP is enabled in Gmail settings, so it's just an issue receiving and sending mail right now. Nothing is coming in, and we have followed the instructions here.

Is the version of Mail that he has never going to work with Gmail, as it's too old ? I would of thought IMAP support would of remained the same over the few years between 10.1.2 and 10.4.11 that it wouldn't matter.

Any useful guides would be much appreciated.
