apple mail - can't disable ping sound

this ping sound upon receiving new mail is driving me nuts!

voiceover utility fix - check
System Preferences --> Sound --> Sound Effects - check
mail > preferences > general > new messages sound - check

even deleted ping.aiff from library>sounds but the thing still goes off!

the strange thing is that i have always had it set to "glass" and not "ping"

lol, fixed, who would've thought a simple reboot was all it needed to take effect?
