apple mail emails not showing in gmail

When I start & send an email from my imac through apple mail, it doesn't show up in my gmail account (or on my iphone). If I start & send mail through gmail, it shows up fine in apple mail. Once I send from apple mail, friend's replies also do not show up in gmail.

I've read a lot of threads of the reverse happening...can't find an answer to this. Been changing the apple mail preferences per gmail's recommendation, but no go.

It used to work fine -until I got an iphone. Don't know why this would change things.

Any help?

Never mind, all. I'm an idiot.

Had my apple mail emails sending through iCloud as opposed to the smtp.gmail.com:xxx@gmail.com. Stopped that and synced iCloud with gmail & all is good.
