Apple Mail & Exchange - SLOW!

Ok guys, I have an exchange server at work and I use exchange through Apple Mail 3.0. Well, it is really, really slow to send and receive. However, if I am in Parallels in the same office, I can use exchange VIA Microsoft Outlook 2007 and my mail works really well. I actually prefer to use it in Apple Mail but it is so slow that I cant wait. Any ideas?
