I recently had to reset my Dad's Mail account, and he has about 25000 emails in his Gmail account. He was downloading the emails in batches of 400, but now every time mail is retrieved from the server its only 2 emails at a time. He's at about 8000 now so you can imagine how long this will take. He's also not getting recent emails just old ones... so its somewhat of a problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Well I don't know how to fix that necessarily, but let me ask you this: Does he want all of those e-mails on his computer at all? Personally, I never cared for the "All Mail" thing, especially in IMAP. If he doesn't want that, there's a Gmail Labs feature called "Advanced IMAP Controls" that allows you to exclude the "All Mail" folder from IMAP, so it won't show up in Mail.app and download all of the messages inside it.

That might help.
