I don't understand if I have a problem or is the correct functionality of App Mail on OSX.

The notification of Apple Mail on OSX (in the right side bar) arrive only when Mail is open or it check automatically in background ?

I had tried to send me an email to the configured account, but when Mail is closed, no notification arrive, they arrive only when i start Mail.

It's all right?

It's fine! it has to be started and running [at least in the background] for it to check for mail and notify you.
