apple mail preferences wonky and crashes

Since i upgraded to 10.15.5 my mail font does not give an option to change it.
the pics below are what i see and what should be seen.

And seems to be crashing a lot...

Anyone else having this problem?

Try booting into Safe Mode, login to your account. Does Mail have the same issue? Now restart the computer back to normal mode and see if mail still has the same issue.
