Universal Apple mail problems on iPhone and iPad

Hi,
I have up to date software for mail. In the last few days I have noticed that it is taking significantly longer to load mail from Gmail, iCloud Mail, BT mail(uk). Anyone have any similar issues? I read a lot about mail being broken but it has worked for me, up until recently.
