Apple Mail Problems (SMTP)

All three of my family's machines are running Leopard and use Apple Mail. Suddenly about ten days ago, my wife was unable to send email from anything but her .Mac account. At the moment, she is able to use Entourage to send email, but she hates this program. Is Mail a less robust program than Entourage or does it require special ports for SMTP? If you can help me in any way to get Mail up and running, my wife (and I) would greatly appreciate it!

Entourage is notoriously less robust than other email clients. Ask any user who has ever had to rebuild its database. My guess is that somewhere along the way, your wife changed her SMTP server settings in Mail for her "problematic" accounts. All of her SMTP servers are accessible via a single pop-up menu. It is a simple matter to change them back.
