I've had to replace the internal hard drive of a Mac Mini to a bigger one and chose to restore the latest Time Machine backup of the users' folders on to the newly formatted (in Disk Utility) new drive. Note: this isn't the boot drive (which is an SSD), but the second drive inside the Mac Mini (it can take two 2.5" drives). Worked great!
But.... upon starting Apple mail I was presented with "Importing messages" which seemed to take forever, going through thousdands of messages. I let it run uninterrupted until done, and as far as I can see nothing has been lost (at least the latest mail is there, so I assume the rest is OK, as it appears fine). What's new however is, under "On my Mac" (on the left hand side along with all the mailboxes) there are multiple "Restored messages (account name)" mailboxes numbered -1, -2, -3 etc. at the end. There's also a "Restored messages (On My Mac)".
It appears this is something which is done automatically after having restored a Time Machine backup (I say so because the same thing happened with the "Photos" app, but there I got a message telling me a restoring of its contents had to be done after a Time Machine restoring).
So can someone please tell me if this is perfectly normal and OK, and which messages have been placed inside the "restored messages" mailboxes? I was guessing previously deleted messages, but that doesn't seem consistent with their content, so I'm puzzled as to what to do with them.
