I just switched back to a Mac after a 4 year hiatus. While on windows I used thunderbird all the time as my email manager. I am trying to set up apple mail to link to my two gmail accounts through pop so that I can have my important emails with me all the time when an internet connection is not present. I set up my account with out a problem but when I start to download all my emails onto my computer, mail's progress section in the bottom left corner shows that it downloaded so many message out of so many message with a current speed at 0kb/s. It stays like this forever not downloading anymore emails. I am connected to the internet through a hard line to the router. I try to cancel the process of downloading the messages by clicking on the X button next to the progress bar and nothing happens. when I quit mail it closes the window but never fully quits just keeps "Mail" in the menu bar highlighed blue I have to end the program using the activity monitor. Does anyone know how to fixs this problem so that I can get all my mail correctly downloaded into mail so that I can start using it.
