Apple Mail w Exchange

When replying or forwarding an email using Mail connected to Exchange, the reply/forward flags do not sync over to Iphone or Outlook on Exchange. This is a huge problem for me. If I reply to an email or forward it from my Mac, when I am in the office.. that same email shows as if no action was taken on it. Is there a work around or a way to resolve this? I really like the Mail app but without this functionality it's pretty much not an ideal solution for email for work.
