Hi All, I'm a new Mac user trying to get Apple Mail set up with Gmail IMAP.

1. I have about 8GIG in my Gmail Mailbox. I setup Advanced IMAP setting in Gmail and set it so that the All Mall folder does not sync. However, the All Mail folder is already in my Mail app.. How can I delete it?

2. How can i force downloads of all the other folders?

Thanks!

as of 2009 you can get rid of any folder by enabling advanced imap options in labs, then going to labels and unchecking the folders you don't want.

That's a different issue. That refers to labels and user-created folders. The All Mail folder isn't a user-created folder. It houses all mail for that mail account.

I think we're both correct on this. By unchecking the box I was able to get rid of the ALL MAIL folder in my Mail app -- of course it's still there in Gmail.

Now I need to figure out how to force download the other folders' past messages.

Yes you can remove it from view in mail.app using the exact method machappyboy described.

I think you'll have to click on each folder to force it to download the messages therein.
