whenever i receive a spam message in my gmail account, apple Mail counts it as a message and is included in the 'spam' folder underneath the 'gmail' tab on the bottom-left hand side. so Mail prompts me that i have received a new message. it gets annoying after a couple of these per day. is there any way to rid myself of the spam folder in Mail? i tried to simply delete the spam folder, but i received the error stating that the internal folder could not be deleted. is there any other way to rid myself of this or to block the messages entering the spam folder in gmail from being displayed in Mail? thanks..

I assume you are using IMAP?
If so continue:
Select the spam folder (the one under the gmail tab) go to mailbox (in the menubar)>use this mailbox for>Junk
That should sync your gmail spam with your mac span and make it all work together. You can do this with trash and sent, etc.
I hope this is the problem you are talking about.
If you don't want to do this:
Go to gmail settings (in your browser)>labs>enable advanced IMAP settings
then
settings>advanced IMAP settings>uncheck the checkbox by the appropriate mailbox.

ignore everything I said if your are not using gmail through IMAP
