Apple today expanded its "Look Around" feature for Apple Maps to San Diego, California and Portland, Oregon, according to Apple Maps expert Justin O'Beirne.

First introduced in iOS 13, Look Around is designed to provide 3D street-level imagery in major cities, much like Google's Street View.

At launch, Look Around was limited to a handful of cities, but it is now available in more than 20 cities and regions worldwide, with Apple regularly expanding the feature to new areas.

Apple maintains a list of areas where Look Around is supported on its website, with availability in cities like New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, London, Tokyo, and more. Apple does not update the site on a regular basis, and a more complete look is available through Justin O'Beirne's tracking efforts.

Apple's last Look Around update was in December, with the feature expanding to Denver, Detroit, Miami, and Ft. Lauderdale.

I stopped using Google Maps a +1y ago. Some might say in their city/country Google works better but in my case I won't look back. Giving my information to Google willingly is not an option.

This is good. I owned a house in Portland about 25 years ago. Looks really close to the same. Nice to be able to drive around virtually and see what has changed since Google Street View.

It is still only available in a limited number of cities.
by the time Apple cranks it up to 100 cities and regions, it will be time to start it all over again. The glaciers would have come again and erased everything.

I was going to say something pretty similar. It’s going to be decades before a city near me gets this feature. I can’t see Omaha or Topeka or Des Moines or Fargo being added within 10 years.

More like floodwaters, but yeah. I would hope these are continually updated otherwise they'll become less and less useful as the photos age.

And the rest of us will live without paranoia.

The Portland maps would be a lot more useful if they had done it in the winter. When they do the mapping in spring you can't see the houses due to trees.

Wouldn't it work for anyone looking at Portland whether they are located there or not? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I would imagine so. Which has nothing to do really with them having Look Around available in my neighborhood.
