Apple today announced that it has launched an Apple Maps on the web feature, which is available in a public beta capacity. Apple Maps for the web works in Safari and other web browsers, allowing users to get directions without having to open up the Maps app.

Apple Maps on the web works like the Apple Maps app, so users can get driving and walking directions, find places to visit, view ratings and hours, and browse curated Guides. There are also features for ordering food directly from the Maps place card and discovering places to eat, shop, and explore in cities around the world. Apple says that additional options like Look Around will be introduced in the coming months.

Apple Maps on the web will serve as an alternative to Google Maps, which has long been the most popular web-based mapping option. You can check out Apple Maps on the web on Apple's Maps.Apple.com website. Developers are able to link out to Maps on the web in their apps, so users can get driving directions and see location information.

Maps on the web is available in English at the current time, and it works with Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad, and Chrome and Edge on Windows PCs. Apple plans to add support for additional languages, browsers, and platforms over time.

Weird, I thought it was already on the web. When I use DuckDuckGo the maps results were powered by Apple Maps. Think it's been that way for a while. I guess they didn't have a dedicated page you could go to before...is that the difference? I refuse to use anything Google anymore with how privacy deprived they are. Especially when people were being falsely arrested just because Google pinged them near a crime scene.

I would gladly help to make Apple maps better, so as many others. Unfortunately there is no option to report.
Yes there is. I’ve used it many times and Apple are usually quick to fix issues.

Can also report directions and suggest changes

The MapKit JS API was released in 2018 for embedding Apple Maps in websites, but this is the first time Apple has put a front end on Maps for direct use by users.

There is in the iOS and Mac apps, and they're very good at responding and changing things. But unfortunately they've left this out of the web interface. Again, though, it is a beta so we can't take every omission as a permanent thing.

But as far as POI data, Apple truly needs to acquire some kind of high quality and up to date database. Crowdsourcing is all well and good, but they have a lot of catching up to do to get anywhere close to Google's data in terms of detail, currentness and completeness.

I love Apple Maps and have been using it daily for years now -- but I still have to open Google Maps if I'm looking up a retail business of any kind because Apple Maps is too often missing things or has old info. I submit stuff when I can, but honestly it's a little time consuming and it's not like I'm getting paid.

I didn’t have this on my bingo card, but I’ll take it!

I think this may be a big step toward open maps up for crowdsourcing and creating their own POI database similar to Google’s which would be fantastic!
