Google's Street View software is amazing; 360-degree views of any street in their database. If you have a VR headset you can take virtual tours worldwide. And if google's cars haven't captured a location, you the user can take your own panoramic photos and submit them to the world to see. This is vital for all the places that Google hasn't yet covered. Volunteers like myself can draw roads and add buildings and businesses to the map; it's a crowdsourced way to build maps in developing countries and keep things updated.
What does Apple Maps have to compete? You can submit data to OpenStreetMaps and hope Apple eventually incorporates your new road and building data. You can try adding your business info into Apple Maps if you sign up for a business account with AppleID and sign some legal forms, and eventually get the ability to submit some photos of the business. You can leave Yelp reviews.
I really wish Apple would let me add 360° views to some of their street views. We have phones with LIDAR just like their mapping cars, let us add more "Look Around" locations in more countries! It's a glaring difference between the two services.
