Apple Maps has been updated with comprehensive transit data in Adelaide, Australia, enabling iPhone users in the city to navigate with public transportation, primarily including Adelaide Metro buses and commuter trains.

Apple Maps gained a Transit tab in iOS 9. The feature lags several years behind Google Maps, but Apple's public transportation support is exhaustive, mapping all station entrances and listing departure times.

At launch, the feature was limited to Baltimore, Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto, and over 300 cities in China. Since then, Apple has been working to expand support for public transportation to other cities around the world.

Newer additions include Atlanta, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Honolulu, Houston, Kansas City, Manchester, Melbourne, Miami, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Montréal, New Orleans, Paris, Portland, Pittsburgh, Prague, Rio de Janeiro, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Diego, Seattle, and Vancouver, B.C.

A complete list of cities that support Transit in Apple Maps is available on the iOS Feature Availability page of Apple's website.

(Thanks, Bernd!)

Is it just me or does Apple Maps still kind of suck? I mean I used to think Bing Maps was bad, but Apple Maps is a whole another level.

Often the POIs in Google Maps and Bing Maps cannot be found in Apple Maps. That's just useless.

By 2020 Apple maps will finally be a 2010 google maps level
Exactly, and people can't constantly excuse Apple that it's worse because it started later.

If you enter the game, be a man and beef up, burn some money to catch up. That's how business work. If you keep lagging behind don't blame people for telling you're in a tail of this race.

Ugh... still no Phoenix!

I'm just as frustrated! Live in Tempe - which has a ton of mass transit options! Phoenix is the 6th largest city in the US - please explain to me how we still don't have transit directions in Apple Maps?? Also how about cycling directions/paths? Not to mention the SAT photos of downtown Tempe are three years old.

Apple Maps sucks like every other built in Apple software solution. There is always a way better free app in the appstore. But iOS is a successor over Android and this combined with the excellent hardware makes iPhones still the best Smartphone out.

Maps has got me lost or taken me to places that do not exist I don't trust it anymore probably the one thing in iOS I still don't like.

Just this morning, I was going to a doctor appointment in Baltimore. The last time I used Waze, without any issues. I started to use Waze when I left my home, but decided to switch to Apple Maps since I was using my Wife's car which has CarPlay.

I was first suspicious when the arrive time was different by four minutes, but still used Apple Maps. I should have known better, as Apple Maps placed me a few blocks away from where I needed to go. I quickly had my wife open up Waze, and it brought me exactly where I needed to be.

It's just you. While Apple Maps is far from perfect, in most respects it is as good as Google Maps. Indeed, even though Apple users have their choice of free mapping programs, and it only takes 60 seconds to download Google Maps, Apple Maps is used exponentially more than Google Maps and is now used many billions, yes that's the big B, billions of times of week. I travel extensively around the country, and periodically will run them side by side to compare. AM is as accurate as GM, but GM still has the edge in searching for places and has visual lane assist. AM should move ahead this year or next as Apple is almost finished with the new base map they have been working on for several years and the thousands that they have working on that project will have some exciting things to show for their efforts. For example, Apple's version of Street View is rumored to be spectacular with sky to door zoom. Just like with Transit, Apple is taking its time and with Transit has blown away Google Maps Transit.

No, its also me. Usability, innovation and overall User Experience is in my opinion far more better with Google Maps. Like with Google Calendar vs. Calendar, Google Inbox vs. Apple Mail, Chrome vs. Safari...

I would love to be able to use the built in Nav app on my iPhone, especially when I use CarPlay. The trouble is, I don't trust Apple Maps to safely get me where I need to be, when I need to be there. It seems like every time I give it a chance again, there are problems. I need it to just work, not almost just work.

And you might be right about Apple Maps improving in the future, but right now it has issues.

I'm actually in Adelaide and have found Apple Maps excellent for driving and have long been awaiting the public transport capabilities. Bravo.

Well fortunately your experience is obviously not typical, perhaps get your phone checked or maybe you haven't used it for a few years. As I said, I use mapping much more than the average person, and I need to be able to rely on accuracy, so I used my Garmin when Apple Maps first came out and was a flop. Overtime I kept checking in on Apple Maps as one is going to use a mapping program if you can't count on it, nor would I. In every part of the country, Apple Maps is now extremely accurate. And while both GM and AM are very accurate, and Google Maps still has a better search function and has visual lane assist, Apple Maps has it beat in some areas, such as interface and privacy. Apple Maps is also seems to have overtaken GM in rerouting around traffic and accidents with more frequent choices to save a few minutes here and there. The result is that often when I run them side by side, Apple Maps now gets me to my destination a few minutes ahead of GM which has been a very welcome surprise.

The fact that Apple Maps is used billions of times a week and gradually and now is the overwhelming choice of Apple users over Google Maps usage on Apple devices demonstrates that my experience is much more typical.

I used it yesterday morning, check out my earlier post. I used a refurbished iPhone 6s Plus that I got a few weeks ago with Apple Care+ after having issues with my old one .

Also, it is not atypical to have confidence issues with Apple Maps, as many people do have concerns and prefer to use other Apps.

Of course Apple Maps is better than it once was, and more and more people are using it, as it is the default Nav app for millions of people's phones. Plus it is the only Nav app supported for CarPlay.

Most head to head comparisons, especially scientific ones show Google Maps and Waze better than Apple Maps on most points.

Maybe one's Apple Map experience has a lot to do with where you live.
