Apple, Microsoft push Office X

APPLE AND MICROSOFT HAVE teamed up to offer a cut-price version of Office on new Macs purchased between now and January 2003.

Microsoft criticised Apple earlier in the year, blaming the company's lack of promotional push for poor sales of Mac Office X. Now, US buyers of new Apple computers will be offered Office for the Mac for $199 instead of the usual price of $499.

Did you check out the Suzuki promo on the left of the webpage? Yeah, her. That's some wacked promo if I ever saw one.

I remember when Microsoft Word 98 iMac edition for OS 9 was available for around $100 or so. I think this is actually an incredible price cut, considering that the 1.25GHz PM just recently became available to the public, instead of being on the not for sale list. Drop in another rebate, and sell Office for $149 low, and you got a deal.

I still think it's overpriced...

Dude, that is a very good price for the software. If it were on Windows, yea, it would be overpriced. For two reasons. The windows version sucks, and there would be a new one in a year. On a mac, they only update about once every two years, plus it rocks on Mac.

Low price is a good thing...

In Norway the student licence is also available to private custumers (not buisness, or people making money from using the apps), for about $129 (NOK 1490 incl. vat). Office X has been selling like hot cakes ever since the introduction. I would estimate that Office X is selling 7-8 maybe even 10 times as much as Office 2001 ever did....
