Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter

Hello, I just purchased an Apple Mini-DVI to DVI adapter for my MacBook and I was wondering that since the adapter head is female, would connecting my DVI-D Single Male Link cable to it work?

That is, connecting a single link male headed cable from my monitor to the mini-dvi to dvi adapter. Would this work? Or would I have to purchased a DVI-D Male to Female cable for my new monitor?

Any combination should work as long as the laptop ends up being connected to the monitor. Good luck!
