apple mirroring

I have an macbookpro8.2 with OS 10.6.8, I just bought and apple tv and wanted to mirror but I do not seem to have that option, I am new to mac can anyone shed some light as to how this is done. Do I need to download the software?

You will need OS 10.8 (Mountain Lion).

I think mirroring only became available with Mountain Lion. So upgrade the OS should fix this for you.
