I have a Mac Mini M2 and a LED Cinema Display (NOT a Thunderbolt display), this: https://support.apple.com/kb/sp597?locale=en_US

I know is easy connect th Thunderbolt Display with this cable: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MMEL2AM/A/thunderbolt-3-usb-c-to-thunderbolt-2-adapter

But what about the LED Cinema Display (NOT thunderbolt)?

I need a Mini DisplayPort to USB-C cable? or a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable?

my big question is, I lose picture quality or resolution between a Cinema Display vs Thunderbolt display due the there's no thunderbolt cable? (they have the same specs 2560 by 1440 pixels).

or I lose quality of something between the Mini DisplayPort to USB-C cable? Vs Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable?

Overall, what's the best way to connect the Mac Mini M2 to a LED Cinema Display (NON thunderbolt)

thanks

USB-C plug to MiniDP socket should do it in theory. The LED Cinema Display uses MiniDisplayPort.

You *don't* want The Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter which looks like it has the right plugs, but won't work.

or a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable?
Most of those are the wrong way round and will only connect a MiniDP output to a HDMI display.

No - MiniDP should give exactly the same image quality as Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt display let you connect Ethernet, Thunderbolt, USB etc. and the webcam all over the same cable, the Cinema Display needed a separate USB cable for the USB hub and camera, but the display quality was the same.

I'm using a 2009 24" Cinema Display (mini DP - 1920 x 1200) with my M2 mini using a USB C -> mini DP adapter. Works great except for the brightness controls on the keyboard don't work out of the box. I use the free Lunar app to get around this and they do work as long as the app is running. There is a thread in this forum discussing adapters if you do a search.

I think the one you're referring to is the 2010 Apple Cinema Display, the same ones I have. They'll work fine using a mini-display port to USB-C converter, no loss of resolution, and you can plug in the USB to access changing the volume and the extra ports on the back of the monitor BUT, you won't be able to change brightness on the M-Series chips, I don't know why this is. There are softwares (I used one called Lunar) that lets you change the brightness of the monitor.

Can anyone confirm that this works with the Mac Studio. I have 2 27" LED Cinema Displays and am about to upgrade from a 2013 Mac Pro to the new M2 Ultra Mac Studio. I don't see why a Mini DP to USB-C converter wouldn't work but someone in another forum said they did this with their MacBook Pro but the same thing wouldn't work on their Mac Studio. So I'm just looking for confirmation that this will indeed work with the Mac Studio as well.

yes I'm referring to the LED Apple Cinema Display NON thunderbolt, later Apple re-release it but with Thunderbolt.
