Im playing with Motion on my G5.

I must say that it is crazy slow. Im running the stock vid card. 5200 gf
all im doing is animating some text

I sure hope that upgrading to a 9800 will speed things up

Motion relies VERY heavily on the graphics card, so of course the 5200FX is slowing you down. Are you on a dual G5 or single? The dual should be quite a bit faster, knowing Apple apps. The 9800 should speed things up because it has a faster GPU plus more RAM. If you can (money) get a 9800 Special Edition because it has 256MB RAM, which may be used by Motion if you're doing big projects.

Edit: Or save $50 on the above offer :D

The single CPU is probably slowing you down quite a bit. Even iDVD has an insane amount of threads for each little movie/sound, etc... If you do a lot of this stuff, save up for a dual. But the 6800 should also give you a "little" speed bump ;)

i hope the 6800 would give me more then a "little" speed bump

but i agree . idealy i need a dual anyways.. im far to much of a power user for my system to keep up with me

I just had my first class Saturday with Motion. We have Dual 1.8 with 9800 cards and 1 gig of RAM. And I must say it is slow. We were working with fairly simple stuff as this is an intro class to Motion, but compared to working with AfterEffects or other apps that Render, Motion was kinda slow. But its a version 1.0 so that may be fixed.
